What was the “Battle of the Pen?”

The Civil War Magazine was an interesting source is the Civil War which published accounts of battles as written by various participating officers from both sides, the North and the South. As it turns out, the version provided by Southern officers won out, and this was referred to as the “Battle of the Pen.”
